JULY 24, 2018 (Last email)

Hey y'all,

I honestly can't believe the time. Time has just flown by serving the Lord here in Louisiana. I will be forever grateful for my mission and the invaluable lessons I have learned these last 2 years. My mission will mean the world to me the rest of my life. I wanted to finish my last weekly email with a showing of gratitude and a few thoughts that I have learned. The Lord has taught me so many spiritual truths, and I will not be able to thank him enough. One of the most important spiritual truths is that of coming to learn of the Savior Jesus Christ. I have been so blessed to see my life, attitude, and behavior change as I have to learned more about Him and strived to apply his teachings and example everyday. I have seen that obedience to the Lord brings so much joy and happiness.  One other spiritual truth is joy in the service of God. I have seen that as I have lost myself in the work of the Lord I have found myself and who I truly am. I have found true joy in loving others and ultimately loving/serving Heavenly Father.

I feel like I have always had faith in the Savior Jesus Christ, but never knew the power that it brings in people's lives. I have seen that through faith in Christ really anything is possible, and miracles are real! I have seen my faith grow so much. In addition, because of faith, the Lord has definitely helped me develop charity and love. I never knew I would come to love the people of Louisiana so fast and so much. I have seen that as I learn more of the Savior and serve those I come in contact with I come to love them so much. I have seen myself change and become more charitable to the wonderful people here.

I love the Savior Jesus Christ. I have loved serving Him here in Louisiana, and will be forever grateful for my mission. It has been the most incredible 2 years of my life so far. I have loved it so much. I love y'all and can't thank you enough for the love and support to me while out serving on my mission. I am excited to see everyone soon!!

JULY 16, 2018

Family, Friends, and Chris,

This week was another incredible week; I don't even know where to start!! So many amazing miracles and experiences to share, but you know how it goes. I will do my best!

We tracted into this guy that came out and was like, "I was just gettin in the books working on my sermon for my church I am trying to start. God must have sent y'all." What are the odds? Well, after the time I have spent in his service I would say they are pretty high, because this is His work and Heavenly Father is aware of all of us.  I love being guided by the spirit to know where to go as a missionary. It was interesting though haha, he wants to hold a church in the super dome on Sundays. Not sure how that will work, but he's a good man.

This week we did a little church swap with Brother Painter, who's wife is a member but he isn't. He attends the Catholic church and specifically the Latin Catholic Mass every week. So we decided it would be an interesting experience, and we could help him come to church as well. In all honesty, I had no idea what was going on or being said while we were there, but it was a good experience. They only blessed bread for communion and no wine, because of health reasons and so I thought that was kinda cool, however, missing a key piece of doctrine of course. It was funny though, because he was showing us around the church and this other usher guy just starts trying to bash with us... Without even introducing himself he said, "If that mass didn't convert you to Catholicism than I don't know what will." Hehe. Since we aren't supposed to preach in other people's churches it kinda felt like an unarmed attack, bless his heart. We just stood there and took the darts :) We told him if he wanted to talk religion with us we could walk down the street and talk with him haha. Standing there I just kept thinking of the song by MC Hammer, "Can't touch this" :) Brother Painter felt bad, but it was all good!

Quote of the week from Patrick: "Dear Elders, Sirs, Trios, this morning I met a couple friends and they asked me questions about now being Mormon. I told them details. Ultimately the said, 'Patrick I've never seen you with such joy and happiness. I think you found the righteous path for you. Congratulations." He then told us how proud he feels to be Mormon. What a guy. I can honestly say I have seen his countenance change and his light shining as an example to others. I love that guy.

Miracle: Michael Dailey and Donovan Castillo were both baptized on Saturday and it was incredible to see and be a part of. The spirit was so strong and it was amazing to see how excited they both were to be clean and start again now on the covenant path. They are a couple years apart and didn't know each other at all, but it has been way cool to see how good of friends they have become attending church together and now being baptized the same day. The ward members have just grabbed a hold of both of them too and that has been so great! Bishop baptized Michael and Elder Woody was able to baptize Donovan :) I will never forget what Michael shared right when he came out of the water, "I have never felt so clean and pure," and Donovan felt the same way. Part of the miracle with this as well is that we had interviews with both of them and Michael's Mom was completely supportive, however, Donovan's mom was not very happy with his decision. We were able to talk with his Mom for like 30 minutes and honestly I don't even remember what exactly we said, but the spirit softened her heart. By the end of the conversation it was almost like she wanted to be baptized too :) It was a total miracle.
Donovan was so nervous that she wouldn't let him, but it all worked out. He is going to go on the youth trip with the ward this week and has made so many friends in young mens which has been great. That same night Michael drove up to BR with some of the YSA's down here for a multi stake YSA activity. The activity was speed dating I guess, and so you can imagine how many digits he got after being baptized that same day :) haha so awesome! He then stood up in Elder's Quorum and told everyone his future plans: "Go into the marines in order to get school paid for, and a 2 year mission." We were in shock!! How cool would that be? Such a stud. He was like, "Taysom Hill did it too." True that! I am so grateful to have met these guys and been able to help bring them into the fold and teach them the gospel.

Last week was my final zone conference, and  I honestly can't even believe it. I remember my first one like it was yesterday. There were some great insights shared about using Preach my Gospel more effectively and setting goals to achieve with the Lord's help. I truly can say that goal setting with the Lord is a way for faith to allow miracles to happen in our lives and especially in his service. Also, during zone conference the missionaries leaving get to share a go-home testimony with everyone. It was very hard for me to wrap in 2 years of service into a testimony, but I will share a few thoughts here as well:

I shared this quote that has meant a lot to me:
"Obedience is the price
Faith is the power
Love is the motive
The spirit is the key
Christ is the reason"
-The greatest price ever paid was that of the Savior Jesus Christ giving his life for us. Because of this, I believe the sacrifices each of us make in our lives draw us closer to Him who sacrificed the greatest. It allows for the faith to become a principle of power that influences our lives. It allows for the spirit to touch our lives and the lives of others around us for the better. The spirit can change our natural desires and refine us into the beings we were destined to be. And all this because of the life and price our Savior Jesus Christ paid for each of us. I have seen that when we put Him at the center, we see ourselves changing more to be like Him. 1 John 3:2

I can truly say my mission has meant the world to me. It has changed my life. I have loved it and love the people of Louisiana so much. I also shared the joy that I have felt and how this work is a work of miracles. Part of Alma 26:12, and 16--- "behold many miracles [have been] wrought in this land, for which [I] will praise his name forever. Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel." Miracles are an unchanging part of the Lord's work, but one of the greatest miracles I have seen is the one that has occurred in my heart. For that I will be forever grateful. Words will not be able to adequately express the love and joy that I have felt. I can truly say I have felt the Savior walking beside me and at times carrying me. I love my mission, I love Louisiana, and I love the Lord. I thought that serving a mission would allow me to "repay" my Heavenly Father for the blessings he has given me, but I think I have found that I am just in even more debt to Him now. I love y'all so much and am so thankful for your love, support, and examples to me.

JULY 9, 2018

Hey y'all out there,

This week was another way great week! First things first Happy 4th of July! Hope y'all had as much fun as I did. We had a blast going from outdoor park concert to outdoor park concert just spreading the Good word and handing out pass along cards like hotcakes. It was great just talking to so many people out in the community honestly! And then of course jamming out to some country USA music with the folks. Let's just say I may or may not have made a scene dancing on one of the background platforms ;). Just getting the name out there. If you see anything I promise I wasn't trying to go viral, sometimes it just happens. What can you do right? And when the music hits the feels and you're preaching the word, it just gets the best of ya sometimes :D Believe it or not we actually found several people that wanted to learn more about the Book of Mormon. One girl from Costa Rica was like, "I have seen y'all all over in my home country. I have always been interested in learning more." Let's goo!! I like to call it "Moving and grooving with the word."           In a trio it is even better, because I get to make 2 other elders feel uncomfortable in public haha. You know what they say, "If you feel comfortable as a missionary you're doing something wrong." (Maybe they don't say that... but I do haha) Bless their hearts! and mine too probably ;) People were giving us food and water left and right though so that was a blessing! Just living in the blessing.

Patrick Orange gave his first talk in church and it was incredible! Bishop asked him if he would be willing to give a 5 minute testimony/share his conversion story. Well, bless his heart it ended up being a 25 minute talk HAHAHA!! But he totally killed it. He only mentioned his medical school about 8 times too so that was good haha jk. He is awesome though. He shared testimony of how it took over 30 years to find the true church, but finally found it. He gave us some shout outs too :) He also shared his favorite scripture in Mormon 9:27. "Doubt not, but be believing." We are trying to get him prepared to go to the temple with the ward at the end of the month and be a leader for the youth trip. It was funny though, because the concluding speaker had 5 mintues to speak, and hasn't been able to give his talk that he prepared 3 weeks ago, because this lady spoke for 35 minutes a few weeks ago hahaha and then stake conference/fast Sunday. This poor man has been nervous and sick and just wanted to give his talk he diligently prepared weeks ago haha. It was pretty funny. Good man!

We had a couple great lessons with Michael and also Donovan. Both come from different families and circumstances, but are just such spiritual kids for their families. I know they will be examples for them. They are both on for their baptisms on the 14th and we are just going to combine the two and hopefully still have a very special experience for both of them individually. We taught Michael the Word of Wisdom and he was all for it. He struggled a little with Tea and called us the next day wondering about it. We shared more of the expectations of being God's covenant people and the blessings of being different and standing out. He is a stud and said he wants to "follow God's way, because he knows it is always better than our way." On Sunday he gave such an incredible closing prayer after we talked more about baptism with Brother Soluki and shared his desire to take upon himself the name of Christ. I loved his quote, "I am grateful and excited to be a future member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints." He is going to be an amazing example and leader to many down here I just know it.

Donovan is 16 and has been doing great as well, and we had a couple lessons at members homes with him this week. The Donegan family had us and him over for crawfish ettouffee and a lesson on the G.O.J.C. and it went great. He has been sharing the message with his family, but unfortunately they haven't been too receptive. He is still trying to convince his Mom to let him go to the temple with the ward too, but we'll see what happens. Such a great kid!

Miracle: Through teaching the stop smoking workshop lesson to Juan, we were able to start teaching another LA family with a couple kids that haven't been baptized. It is Brother Larsen's daughter and he has attended the lessons with Juan. The Mom (Melanie) struggles with smoking and the kids want to help her stop. It was amazing to see the love they had for their Mom in wanting her to stop. One of the nephews was visiting as well, and took a pass along card to have missionaries come help his dad do the same thing when he goes back to Florida. He is 13 and pulled out his wallet, stuck the pass along card inside, and was like, "I am going to keep this safe so I can help my Dad stop smoking too."

I have been thinking a lot about finishing my mission stronger than I started. As difficult as it may sound, I am reminded by the many things I learned (and now get to look back at) when running races in High School. Training was hard at first, but became more manageable as my body adapted to the high athletic performance. I believe this same process occurs in the mission field and in many aspects of life---The race is a constant battle. Some of the hardest courses I ran were the ones with the many hills found throughout the race that we had to run up and then back down. For example the Tiger Griz course in IF with its many hills or the Behemoth Soda Springs Hill. (Those were brutal!) Now granted Louisiana is a pretty flat place, but the spiritual hills are most definitely found haha. Although the treks up the hills are daunting and at times feel impossible to climb, once the summit is reached it may begin an invigorating descent. The descent, especially if taken at a fast pace, feels refreshing and exhilarating. I believe this happens often in the mission field, and has definitely happened on my mission. It is the times of trial and testing that feel like an uphill battle, but once the summit is reached and the downhill begins then the feelings of accomplishment and joy fill the body and give that boost of speed to continue forward. When looking back at the many amazing experiences on my mission, if it weren't for the hills along the way I wouldn't treasure those times filled with happiness and joy as I felt myself flying down a massive hill. In addition, I have seen that the greatest runners not only started the race fast, but finished even faster than they began. Their final "Kick" (running at a faster speed during the last part of a race) pushed them to reach goals they never thought possible, and strengthened their resolve to run another race, even if that meant charting a different course. I hope and pray that I can give my all to the Lord and finish stronger and faster than I began, because I believe that will give me the added strength to continue forward with faith.

I love y'all! Thanks so much for all your support for me serving a mission. I love it so much, and will forever treasure my experiences. I love my Savior Jesus Christ and serving Him. Hope you have a great week.
Love,
Elder Wilson

JULY 2, 2018

Hey y'allers,

I just keep finding that the weeks just get better and better! This last one was one for the books that is for sure. Trio life is good!

Funny Story: We read a powerful talk (letter) called the Ricciardi Letter for companion study this week, and it got us all pumped as you can imagine. Just picture a trio of 3 elders just ready to pound some doors proclaiming the good word. Basically the elder in the letter is totally savage and bolder than the bolded Miracles in this letter. We were all being way bold and just talking to everyone on the streets. In the 100 degree heat and humidity I even started a lesson with this guy by asking to borrow his hose and helped wash his car, etc.  We took a soak too haha. (speaking of 100 degree weather with humidity, all I can say is goood gravy!! I don't think I have sweat more in my life. We are cooking our butters off down here. And the rocks aren't clean enough to throw eggs on, so it is a lose lose.Snow balls (snow cones) are the only things helping us survive! Anyways, we were visiting this former investigator and Elder Woody just starts throwing down dropping bomb shells on this poor man. He was like, "Cleon do you believe in Christ? Then you need to fulfill your commitment to read this chapter to know if this is true, because you haven't kept it yet." Boom! Elder Bailey and I were nervous and sick, but it worked out somehow hahaha. He read it, and we are having some good discussions with him :) It was a little different when he talked about how we almost interrupted him last week with a "friend" and he has a trust fund back east... anyways lol. Gotta love the south!!

Donovan and Michael both made it to church this week, and are doing great! There is a youth temple trip planned with the ward here at the end of the month, and so we are going to work towards helping them get baptized so they can attend.

Patrick entered the waters of baptism on Saturday, and what a sight. He was so happy and couldn't stop smiling. I will never forget his smiling face as he came out of the water, clean and pure. It was such a special day and the spirit was undeniable. He posted many pictures on FaceBook, and shared how he felt it was one of the best experiences of his life so far. He is 46 and continues to tell us he has been searching for the church for over 30 years. We had multiple lessons at Brother and Sister Strobel's house here, and Brother Strobel is also in medical school. Him and Patrick became great friends right off the bat, and so it was way cool to see Brother Strobel baptize Patrick. I was grateful and humbled to be able to confirm Patrick a member of the church and give him the Holy Ghost in sacrament meeting the next day. It was a special experience for me, and the spirit definitely prompted some amazing blessings for Patrick. I am so so incredibly grateful for the opportunity that I have had to be an instrument in the Lord's hands here in Louisiana. I sure do love Louisiana. Patrick came to his baptism with a tithing slip ready to give to the bishop too! What a guy. And then since yesterday was Fast Sunday we got a text from him at about 5:45 that evening saying, "Successful fasting (I believe I did) Can I now have dinner Elders? Is there any specific time to have dinner?"  We laughed and smiled about how prepared and faithful this man is. He's awesome! Not sure if I mentioned this before, but
Miracle: When Patrick was 10 years old missionaries visited his family in Thailand and gave him a picture of Jesus to color. Then about 20 years later while living in New Orleans he had the elders (in the picture I will send) over for dinner a couple of times. He remembers both experiences vividly, but wasn't ready to accept the gospel at those times. However, looking at the picture now of the 2 elders 16 years ago he sees similarities between Elder Woody and I, and then another elder not shown in the picture visited one time (they were in a trio one time they visited Patrick), and now 16 years later it starts with 2 elders (Elder Woody and I) and then now Elder Bailey came to finish. Interesting to some, but to me it is a miracle and testimony of a loving Heavenly Father that is very aware of each of us. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is true and has been restored!
Another part of the experience was how much anti and hate mail Patrick received from "friends" the night before his baptism. We testified of how Satan is doing everything he possibly can to stop him from making the decision to follow Christ and be baptized. As sad as it is it is another testimony of the reality of this work. If it weren't true why would Satan care? Patrick punched Satan in the mouth though! He said he can't deny the testimony he has found. Let's goo!!

We have been meeting with Juan multiple times a week and he is doing so good. We came prepared on one of the lessons to teach the Word of Wisdom and this is what was crazy:
Miracle: He told us that 2 days before he had visited the Doctor and they told him he needed to stop smoking as soon as possible or his lungs would not be able to handle it anymore. (Something along those lines) Anyways, we then told him about the word of wisdom and how it was actually a commandment from God. He was beyond willing and excited to live the word of wisdom. We went over a couple days later and taught the stop smoking workshop to help him to be a non-smoker in 7 days. Amazing to see how the Lord puts us missionaries in the paths of people's lives at the perfect time. It is almost like it is His work! It is definitely His work!
It was a smile for me when after one of the lessons Juan walked outside with us and told us how much he has changed in just the last couple of weeks. He seemed so happy about his progress, and it made me think about how happy our Heavenly Father is when we turn closer to him and change. I have found so much joy in helping people to change and turn to the Savior Jesus Christ and I know that a lot of the reason is because I have seen myself change in the process. I love helping people to repent, because that means I get to repent and change with them. The joy that I have found is unmeasurable. I love my Savior Jesus Christ and I love Louisiana, because of Him.

I love y'all and want to thank you for supporting me out here on my mission. Hope you have a blessed week and stay low and frosty as usual.
Love,
Elder Wilson

JUNE 25, 2018

Hey y'all,

This week was another great one for the books!

We volunteered at a bowling alley this week to help special needs kids bowl, and cheer them on. That was super fun, and so great to see them smile. Some smart kids that is for sure! One guy threw a gutter ball and then hacked into the system, erased the score, and bowled again hahahaha. Have no idea how he did that, but was pretty impressive! Also, learned some pretty eye opening bowling form. I never thought you could be that creative in bowling and still hit strikes. My favorite form was one kid throwing it up about 3 feet and smacking down on the floor halfway down the alley. Hit a couple strikes too. If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess. haha was awesome!

Yesterday was Stake Conference here in New Orleans, and the stake president reserved the first row in the chapel for investigators :) It was so awesome!! We were able to sit up front with Patrick and Michael. Also, Patrick brought his friend Gala with him as well which was way cool. Just the man. He is so excited and has been telling everyone about his baptism this Saturday the 30th.

Patrick sent us a message on Saturday morning after we had taught the word of wisdom on Friday saying, "Sirs, I got a water at Denny's and am going cold turkey with the coffee and tea. Hope you are proud of me sirs." Haha just so proper and wants to do everything right. It has been amazing to see his progress. Just picture the most respectful man wearing a suit and tie coming to church every week for the last month and a half. And then picture the stud that he his in medical school with his white overcoat helping his friends pass the exams with the study sessions he holds. Literally every lesson he tells us all about about how his friends still call him asking him for study ideas, etc. And he absolutely loves talking about medical school haha. Usually takes us a good 20 minutes before starting the lesson, because he has to tell us the news with the medical schools in the Caribbean and what not. Bless his heart! He fits right in with the people down in the south. I have learned so much from being here in Louisiana, but one thing is definitely being able to just sit down and listen to someone talk for a good minute hahaha. (the hard part is just staying alert. hehe)

Miracle: This week was filled with teaching miracles, but last Sunday Brother Bell introduced us to his friend Juan at church. He had attended church with Brother Bell for many months prior to being sick the last few months that I have been here. Also, another member Brother Larsen  has been helping with the lessons and he is apparently a "Seventy" in the church because back in the day many people were just called to the priesthood office of seventy for missionary work. We have to keep him dialed in, but it keeps things interesting with his deep doctrine views haha. Just keeping us on our toes that is for sure. No worries though, the church is still true down here.
Anyways, they came to church this last week and told us that Juan is ready to be taught! We were stoked. Heavenly Father is seriously just blessing this area and people are coming out of the wood works just ready to be taught. It has been unreal. We had 2 lessons with Juan already this week and so cool how he already has friends helping him. Juan's wife unfortunately just recently passed away in the last few months, and so has been really seeking God for help. Brother Bell experienced the same thing about a year ago, and so a blessing that they have been helping each other. We had a very spiritual plan of salvation lesson with them, and Juan shared how he wants to do anything he can to live with his faithful wife again. He has already prayed about The B.O.M and Joseph Smith as well. So prepared. We invited him to pray right then and there about continuing with the lessons and preparing to be baptized. He finished the prayer with tears in his eyes and a desire to take the steps with dedication. I am so grateful for the knowledge of the savior Jesus Christ in being that pillar in the plan of salvation. It is only through Him that we may be saved and return to live with our Father in Heaven again and our families.

Update on Michael: He is doing sooo good!! He has been able to make it to church faithfully, and everyone in the ward just loves him. He is being recruited to play wide receiver at Ole Miss too so that is pretty cool! We have had several lessons in members homes and different families just keep inviting him over. I want to share one of the lessons with Michael. We taught the Plan of Salvation and related it all to a game of football. ---> pre earth life is the locker room, putting the jersey on and getting on the field is receiving a body and coming to earth, Jesus Christ was the MVP, kingdoms of glory is the hall of fame, etc. It was awesome! Michael loved the analogy and was like, "How do I sign the contract to be on the Lord's team?" HAHa let's goo!! We invited him to be baptized and are planning for July 7th!! He is way excited :) He has been working out with several members of the ward during the weeks too and they have been doing crazy workouts haha. Like pulling Jeeps with a rope, and high jumping the jeep haha, He is a stud! We had a lesson with Michael at the Bishop's house right after church as well, and talked about the commandments/law of chastity. Just so cool finding Michael and seeing his life change. It is hard to express the joy that comes from seeing someone turn closer to God and be that example for the rest of his family. He has such high goals for life, and is getting himself out of some societal pits down here. So great! Next thing will be getting the man a missionary name tag :) Maybe a few months!

I could go on and on. I love this work, and am so grateful to be here. Hope you have a great week!! love y'all ya hearrrrd me!

JUNE 18, 2018

Y'all it just keeps getting better!! This week was another one for the books.

We started off the transfer with setting some high goals to reach toward. Not only just as the 3 of us, but also with the other 2 elders in the apartment with us. (Yes, we are like sardines down here, but all good times) We talked about setting some goals for church attendance that may be a little ambitious, but we all felt the spirit excite us! Our motto is 4th quarter! Let's goo. Just laying it all out there since the game is on the line. It was amazing to see the Lord already blessing us even in just a few days as we sought his guidance and expected his help. After all this is His work.

We began with our first lesson with our man himself, Patrick Orange. We had such a bomb lesson with him, and as we read Matthew 7---> 2nd Nephi 31 we were able to invite him to be baptized on June 30th! He is so ready and has been being prepared by the Lord for many years now. He just didn't know it until now. Amazing to see how everything just falls into place at the right time for the individual. He doesn't cease to impress me by his sincere desire to follow Christ the rest of his life. We had another 2 lessons with him at other member's homes during the week and they were just so good. Patrick is from Thailand and so English is his second language, and so it is still funny sometimes when he can't seem to find the right words to use. He also brought dessert one of the nights and kept trying to get us to eat the chocolate rum cake. That was pretty funny, bless his heart.

Brie Engle was confirmed  a member and given the holy ghost in sacrament meeting yesterday, and Elder Woody was able to perform that. It was a special experience for all of us, and so amazing to see the gospel enter back into a family's life. Such a sweet girl.

Michael Dailey is doing way good as well, and we had some great lessons with him. He has been working out with some of the members in the ward. One is also african american and a recent convert so that has been awesome. (I'll share more next week on Michael)

Trio Tracting: Well, first and foremost one of the funniest things is biking in a trio. When people see us they just seem so confused hahaha. And you know you're in trouble when you are the one that gets stuck biking in the middle after a ruthless rock, paper, scissors battle. Who would've thought that following one elder, and one elder following you all on bikes could be so nerve wracking :) especially with the New Orleans drivers/traffic. But hey usually someone's got an extra bike tube, so that makes popping a tire a little better. Bless Elder Woody's tire. 2 popped tires in a week. He's a good man IRregardless. Also, one day it was pouring rain sooo bad, and we were biking through lakes of water it felt like. Just soaked/buttered up to the bone, but it was classic. Also great preparation for taking a soak!

Anyways, so tracting in a trio is pretty hysterical. First off, when someone opens the door and they see 3 white guys in white shirts and ties (for whatever reason)  they immediately get nervous and sick and grab the nearest weapon of defense they can find. (Not sure who would rob someone in a white shirt and tie, but I guess it is NOLA haha) We only had one lady grab a cane though so no worries there. (Almost thought I was going to look like the guy on RM after getting hit with the walker) Once we introduced ourselves as missionaries the tension died down.
It also makes it interesting when you go to an apartment complex and can hit 3 doors at the same time with multiple people answer ;) "We are just going around inviting people to a neighborhood bible study. And actually we were thinking of doing it right here...... in one of your homes. " LOL

It was awesome though, because we were talking about the NBA and how being in a trio is like drafting another super star to the team. Then this lady answers her door, and I just hit her with "Do you like the NBA?" Elder Woody and Bailey were looking at me like I was crazy at first, but next thing we knew we were teaching her the Plan of Salvation on her porch relating it completely to the NBA and everything. It was actually way awesome. We talked about how John the Baptist was the forerunner to Jesus Christ joining the team. SUPERSTAR! She told us how she hadn't been to church in many months and really wanted us to come back. We'll see what happens! Just making it fun and working hard.

I want to finish with my testimony. I have been studying a lot about obedience and sacrifice, and the miracles that come from them. As the scriptures share, "I the Lord am bound when you do what I say, but if ye do not what I say you have no promise." D&C 82:10  This and many other scriptures share this thought. Ultimately following God inherently brings blessings from Heaven.

In addition, through reading the miracles the Savior Jesus Christ performed I came to see that in each case there was either obedience/sacrifice/or both demonstrated by those involved. I know that as we are obedient in any aspect of our life that we will see the miracles from Heaven. I have no doubt in my mind that this is true, however, obedience requires sacrifice. I know that God lives and he loves us. He wants so badly to bless us in our lives, but must first see if we will do our part and show our faith. Ether 12:6, "Ye receive no witness (miracle) until after the trial (showing of obedience/sacrifice) of your faith."
I love y'all and hope you have a blessed week!

JUNE 12, 2018

Y'all this week was incredible!!
Before I begin I will share the transfer news for my last hoorah. President called me several days before so I have been able to mentally prepare luckily! So Elder Woody and I are staying here in Kenner together to continue to churn some butter, but we are adding another elder. Looks like I will be finishing it out in a trio! We are bringing in an elder that goes home with me, Elder Bailey. This is going to be interesting and definitely a challenge, but I know that with the Lord on my side I can do it! I pray for his strength and help. Bless Elder Woody's heart though, killing two birds with one stone. I am humbled with the additional responsibility, but am a little nervous. All I know is that I won't be holding back on the throttle so here we go! A wise man once said, "You can come willingly or unwillingly." (this was in reference to the family thanksgiving turkey bowl, but I have seen it apply to many things :D)  Haha just kidding it will be great! Also, my boy Elder Hoopes is coming down and will be in the district to finish up so I am way stoked about that!

I forgot to mention earlier, but our man Taysom Hill who is playing for the Saints lives in New Orleans and actually just got called as the ward mission leader over there in the ward I started at. Of course I missed him dogonit! Him and Manti Te'o are in the New Orleans ward. Bummer I missed him, but anyways he is in this area! So on Sunday night Taysom Hill and his wife Emily were having a Stake youth/young adult fireside at the church. Michael Dailey loves the saints and was so excited about this event. We brought him with us, and made sure to get some pics. I told Taysom, "We better get a picture so I can send it to Grandpa Longmore." He laughed, agreed, and also asserted that President Longmore is the man. Honestly a great devotional as they shared about overcoming trials and always putting trust in the Lord no matter what.

A Little culture: We headed over to Downtown NOLA for P day last week and had a good ole time jamming out to the Jazz music on the streets, hitting the street car, having beignets, and browsing the french market shops. Home sweet home over there where I started. Just over the riverbend!

Our guys Patrick Orange and Michael Dailey both were able to attend the baptism, and seemed to love it. It has been so cool and kinda funny the progression of these guys. Patrick's first Sunday he came in regular clothes, the next Sunday a white shirt and tie, and this Sunday a full suit. What a man! This Sunday Michael came in a fresh white shirt and tie as well, just looking fly. Patrick asked us after the baptism if he needed to purchase a jump suit. Haha who is this guy? We have been meeting with him several times a week and about ready to put him on date for baptism. He has been reading the Book of Mormon with his RM roommates every single night.

We have been teaching Brie Engle and her family, and it has been amazing to see them come back to church and help Brie prepare for her baptism. Sometimes the spirit just has to remind us. That has made me smile teaching her, reminds me of my younger sisters. It has been very great to see the progress in her mom as well as we have invited her to read and pray. The dad isn't a member and is pretty stand-offish, but is okay with them coming back. The Mom, Jessica, has been bringing her 2 daughters to church with her now though. It is honestly a miracle seeing the spirit and light change in their lives. Along with this though I want to share the miracle this week.

Miracle: I want to call it the miracle baptism. Even though every baptism is a miracle and have many leading up to it, this one was a special one. At the beginning of this transfer Elder Cannon and I came from other areas and had the idea to present for the 4 of us elders.  As a quad we committed to find 100 new investigators and asked that in return for our efforts that we would be able to see and take part in the baptism of one of Heavenly Father's beloved children. We committed, put our Faith in the Lord, endured the struggles of finding at times, and expected a miracle. My testimony has only grown that God truly does provide and always keeps his end of the promise if we keep ours. We gave it our all and achieved our goal. And here we were, the last week in the transfer and a special girl, Brie Engle, was prepared by the Lord to be baptized. A miracle finding her so soon in the transfer. The process of teaching her and bringing her family back was truly amazing. Luckily for us she had been taught the lessons before, but many months before. As prepared as they come. And interesting enough Elder Israelsen one of the elders in our quad is going home this week, and actually participated in teaching Brie many months before. What a great way to leave the mission field right? He was able to baptize Brie his final week, and we all felt a huge part in the miracle. The lord has provided so many people that we have been teaching that I know will be ready here in the coming months, but He knew with the time allotted that we needed someone already prepared. He sent us where we needed to go. It was a miracle baptism and the spirit was so strong :) It was right after church on Sunday and Brie's Dad and her extended family all came. We are going to keep reaching out to them, and she will be confirmed next week in sacrament meeting.

I know that God answers prayers. He is there and loves us. He is willing and desires to make promises with us. How joyful He must be when we keep our promises. I love my Savior Jesus Christ and the path I have been able to walk with him. This time is precious to me.

Elder Wilson

JUNE 4, 2018

What a week! It has only been a few days, but I will share a few highlights. I just keep wondering how it could get any better, but I never cease to be amazed.

We have been teaching Brie Engle and she is doing so great. She gave the closing prayer in one of the lessons this week and had prepared several days for it :) We all showed our family pictures and she opened right up. She attended all of primary this week too, and seemed to love it. Going to try and help her get involved with the activity days.

Church this Sunday was incredible, but so hectic! We had over 10 investigators there this week. The Lord is just blessing this area sooo much. They are just walking themselves through those doors, it is incredible. The short bus turned into a full size yellow school bus this week, it was unreal. We were running around all over the place, but it was awesome.

We met with Kristian/Renika and family this week, and they expressed how 3 hours of church was just too long for them. After a great lesson where the spirit was present, they still made it to church! Apparently Kristian bore her testimony in Relief Society about how how she was so grateful she came even though she had complained about it the night before.

Community Cultural Event:
Just picture this: 20,000 yellow mini rubber duckies floating across New Orleans City Park Lake for the annual Duck Derby. The community was raising money for the Food Bank, and we were able to volunteer scooping them up and taking down booths, etc. It was out in the blistering heat, but I resisted the temptation of taking a soak! It was awesome though and we were able to just get out there  and talk with tons of people. And it doesn't get much more cultural than with Rubber duckies. I mean especially the mini ones.. Just a good family friendly event in NOLA :) All sorts of butter being sold, and ducks to be floated. Good time!

Miracle: We received a referral of this guy named Patrick Orange that was attending medical school down in the Carribbean and was rooming with a RM. Apparently he attended church with this guy like 3 or 4 times. He just recently returned home for the summer break, and got in contact with us. We are way excited about him. He made it to church in his white shirt and tie and everything!! The man is so prepared. He came up to us at church with the pamphlet he had read along with a TYPED up 4 pages of additional study questions/notes that he had answered from the back. Quote from Patrick himself, "I love to type." hahahaha what a guy! He texted us later Sunday night telling us that he had read Alma 17 and 18 with his RM friend Santa over the phone. Let's goo! He then texted saying, "I think I have found the church I have been searching for for over 30 years." Just can't even believe it. These quotes must be coming straight from PMG itself, I'm telling ya.

Well, I will leave with my testimony. I had an eye opening experience this week. It is rare down here that I have the opportunity to teach someone that doesn't believe in any form of a God. We asked this man many questions about spiritual experiences in his life and even about having his 2 young kids. I am sad to say, but his answers just seemed so depressing. It was like nothing really mattered to him. Anyways, it really made me think about what my life would be like without a knowledge of a God/eternal families. I just can't imagine it. Whether we have questions about certain things or not, I feel like it would be hard for many of us to deny the happiness of these simple gospel truths.  It was a further testimony to me of the happiness and joy that come from the restored gospel. I love y'all and hope you have a blessed week! Ya herrrrd me?

MAY 30, 2018

Hey y'all,

This week has been crazy with Memorial Day on Monday and Zone Conference on Tuesday, but it was a great week! I never know where to start, but honestly everyday as a missionary is a highlight so we'll see what I pull out this week.

A few highlights:

Exchanges: I had the chance this week to go down the BAYOU  of Louisiana down in the Houma/Thibodeaux area. Just straight Cajuns down there it was awesome! Tons of turtles, and ventured to see our friend "Big AL" a big ole gator. One example: We were helping this guy get turtles out of this pond with a rope/cage, and then weeding around it. And out of no where we hear him yelling across the grass, but had no idea what he was saying. We found out shortly he was saying "Cooley get the turtles out of the cage." But it sounded more like "Cullooo geda turdas frm da cashge." haha and that doesn't even do it justice.

So Rodney Hollis turns out to be one of the greatest member missionaries this side of the Mississippi and he doesn't even attend church haha. Let me just help y'all re picture this man. 5 foot 1, like 250 lbs totally jacked out of his his mind. Total swoledier. He showed us this video of him benching 500 lbs. Just good gravy. Anyways, loves the bible and loves the Lord. Also the funniest guy. He told us that when he was baptized, "They had me in a nice warm swimming pool and had me up on the big screen broad casted to Salt Lake City. " Lol we think he was talking about the big mirror above the font :) I love the South. Some of the quotes from this man are just too good.
We show up for our meeting with him, and he invites us in only to introduce us to this 18 year old kid that is preparing to go into the marines in the fall. Rodney's first sentence, "My brothers this is Michael and he is hungering for the Lord. Teach him the gospel." Hahaha let's goo!! We were so stoked! Let's just say like many down in the South Rodney isn't a man with few words, so the first lesson we were mostly just quoting bible scriptures and gaining that trust with Michael. Rodney just starts preaching too haha. So at the end of the visit, we were like, "Rodney you gotta come to church with us tomorrow, and bring Michael with you." Rodney was like, "My brothers in Christ, I have other commitments at another church, but y'all take Michael with you." haha we will keep working with Rodney bless his heart, because this man could bring some influential Louisianians into the church. And he has already set us up! After the lesson Rodney said he wanted everyone to see us with him, so he started waling down the street with us haha. At one point he was yellling down the street saying, "These are the Lord's anointed sharing God's word." Just imagine this man yelling that :D
We got Michael a ride to church, and he loved it. He is sooo prepared it is incredible! As we walked into the church with him, he stopped outside and just stared at the sign "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." It was familiar to him, which isn't surprising, but way cool. We asked him what he thought about church, since it was kinda a lot all at once. He said, that the moment he walked in he felt something different: the spirit of the Lord was there, and he recognized it.

Miracle:
We were tracting a few streets that we had prayed about, and were having great success. We felt like we needed to hit a different street, and ended up knocking on this door and this older lady invited us right in. (Always a pleasant surprise when someone just up and lets you in without even introducing yourself) Well, turns out she is a member of the church, and immediately asked us: "So y'all are here to teach Brie right?" Elder Woody and I turned to each other having no idea what was going on haha. Turns out Brie had been previously taught by missionaries and their family is semi active. Brie was visiting her grandma that night, but isn't usually there since her house is on the other side of town. So we are going to start teaching her since she is almost 10, and hopefully help her family start coming back to church. She is a way nice little girl, and she has a 13 year old sister as well. Brie's dad isn't a member either, so we are going to try and make steps there as well. It was a total miracle, as we had no idea that this family was ready to receive the missionaries. They made it to church too :) I love being in the service of the Lord, being guided by him each and everyday. There is just no denying the guidance we receive on the Lord's errand, it is amazing.
I love this quote by President Monson and I think it doesn't just apply to missionaries, "Whether it is the best of times or the worst of times, He is with us. He has promised that this will never change." I know we have a Heavenly Father that is very aware of each of us.

I could continue to share the spiritual highlights, but I will close with my experience yesterday at Zone Conference. It was a powerful meeting, and spiritually refreshing. Many testimonies were shared, and that was a spiritual high for me. The spirit was so strong and I was grateful for the reminder of my own personal love for my mission as other missionaries bore testimony at the close of theirs. I will forever cherish this journey, and am so grateful I can continue to serve Him. Glad my mission call has been extended to 2020 ;) Now I will really become a Southerner. Hahaha jk don't worry Mom! I love y'all and I love my Heavenly Father.

MAY 21, 2018

Hey Family and friends!

This week was just another incredible week! So many amazing experiences to share, and the good times just keep rolling down here in the South.

First and foremost, just picture this: A white and orange short bus (like literally a bus haha) pulling into the church parking lot with a family of 5 dressed and ready for church. Just a sight to see let me tell you. It was awesome! Heavenly Father has really been blessing this area already. We have been doing this neighborhood "bible study" which just ends up being a Book of Mormon study haha, and all the neighbors trickle in and out. We went one Saturday, and told the family we'd be back in 20 minutes, and to invite everyone they could. We came back and several other neighborhood kids were over ready to study. It turned out great! We have been studying a lot together about the Savior and his Atonement especially in Alma 7. I mean everyone down here loves Jesus, so what better topic am I right? So this Saturday we really invited for church, and luckily a member has a big bus and was willing to go and pick everyone up for church. :) It was way awesome, and they seemed to enjoy it! It was the mom, Kristian, her daughter Renika, son Benny, and 2 younger daughters Lamyra and Mylove. Definitely a little different from what they are used to being Southern Baptist, but we think they liked it and felt the spirit! In Elder's Quorum we were talking about priesthood blessings, and Benny asked if he could receive one. So right there in the middle of EQ we performed a priesthood blessing for Benny. That was way cool. He is 18, and we invited him to the game night and volleyball YSA activities this week.

I received a call from Chris and Paige ( investigators up in Mandeville) saying that Chris is really making those steps to be baptized, and Paige is not far behind him. They said that they have been praying about getting married, and are willing to just do whatever they need to do. Apparently Chris was like, "well I immediately went over to the courthouse to figure out the paperwork I need to sign and the stuff I need to do to make this official so that I can get baptized." haha let's gooo! Anyways, so I was way excited to hear that, but the shocking thing was when they told me that I was an ordained minister, and that they want me to perform the wedding.....!!...Like what? So we'll see what happens with some counsel from the mission President, but sounds like it might be a possibility. Apparently Elder Jensen talked with President Varner and it sounded like it could happen. Haha so I may or may not be conducting a marriage ceremony in the next few weeks and marrying them! Can you just imagine that? Good gravy. Haha who knows though bless my heart, but how cool would that be? Regardless I was very touched when they told me they wanted me to do it if I could. They are amazing!

Miracle:
We were out contacting some LA members, and came across this lady named Diana. After some hard struggles she hasn't been to church in over 20 years. She hasn't even had contact with anyone in the church for years. However, her son actively attends every week. She has been telling her son the last few months that she will be coming back to church soon. She had made a resolution with Heavenly Father that she would be coming back to church this summer. Well, what does He do? He sends the missionaries on May 20th in the summer! She invited us right in and we had a great visit with her. She recognized the miracle of us being there, and we testified using the scripture in Alma 26:37. I know with all my heart that Heavenly Father answers prayers. One of the most incredible feelings of joy has to be being led by the spirit to answer someone's prayer.

Elder Lynn G. Robbins of the Seventy came to the mission this week and had a MLC meeting with a group of us missionaries. I was grateful for the opportunity to attend, because it was such an inspiring meeting. He was dropping some serious spiritual nuggets that is for sure. I will share a few highlights:
-In order to BE like Jesus Christ you must first DO as he does.
-Success is going from failure to failure without any loss of enthusiasm.
-The battle is His, so leave the worrying to him.
-Teach the doctrine and leave the investigator at the cross roads with the influence of the Holy Ghost. The decision is theirs, but the Holy Ghost is the master teacher to help them make the right decision.
Those were just a few of the incredible insights that I believe can be applied to any aspect of life. So many personal insights for me, and I am so grateful for how the answers to life's questions truly are found in the scriptures you just have to look for them in the right way.

Love y'all. Stay prayed up and blessed!

MAY 14, 2018

Hey y'all,

It was so great skyping the family yesterday!! Looks like everyone is doing so well. Happy Mother's Day, love you Mom. Could hardly recognize Chris and Mike, but with the weight gain and everything down here in Louisiana I guess I can't say much haha ;) Things here are really turning and burning, but I will just share a couple experiences for this week.

Miracle:
We were doing service at the Food bank in Metairie, and one of the members of the ward came with us. We met so many way cool people. So Nohemi (one of the members) gets talking to this girl working there with us and invites her to get some food afterward. So we end up going to a little fast food restaurant, and Jess (the volunteer we met) came with us. We had a great time talking with her and getting to know her and then like 30 mins in ( even after we had been explaining our missions/leaving for 2 years, etc) she tells us that she is Catholic, but after moving out and going to school at LSU she started questioning it. Anyways, we end up asking her if she had ever attended a Mormon church, and she immediately gets red in the face, eyes widen, and her mouth drops. She was like, "Wait....y'all are Mormons?" hahahaha!! We all busted up laughing, because she had no idea we were Mormons (and Mormon missionaries especially haha). She seriously thought Mormons were crazy weird people and was so confused, it was so funny. The miracle of the story though is that she attended LSU, and after we told her that I served there  1 year ago she said she remembers me on Free Speech alley!!! It was funny though, because she admitted to taking a pass along card and just trying to avoid all eye contact every other time she walked passed and we were there. Haha! She was so embarrassed, but now realizes she just had no idea what we were all about and what we were doing. She expressed interest in coming to church next week too, so we are excited. Been thinking about how cool that would be if I was meant to teach her, and just took a couple opportunities.

Funny tracting story:
We we were down in the hood of Kenner, just minding our P's and Q's, out walking down this street. We made sure to park our car in a different location as well and hit the road on foot haha. So we are trying to contact a people on the roster, and street contact, etc. One of the names we are looking for is this guy named Rodney Hollis. So we are talking to tons of people and eventually come walking passed this car with a few people standing outside of it. One guy waves at us and basically tells us to keep up the good work and the people down here need Jesus haha. We decided to stop and talk with him of course, and turns out the man's name is Rodney. So I'm like, Rodney Hollis? And everyone goes silent, and he was like, "My brothers!! You remember me!" It has been a decade and y'all are still out doing the work of the Lord. (I honestly think he thought we were the same guys that taught him like 10 years ago haha) The funniest thing was the wife standing right next to him with the most shocked look on her face because we knew his last name. Rodney hit us with like 5 NOLA hand shakes and invited us back this week. Gotta love it! Just getting some street cred down here.

I will keep it short this week. I am loving the work down here, and know that it is true. Love y'all. Have a blessed week!
Love,
Elder Wilson

MAY 7, 2018

Hey y'all,

I am happy to say I made it safely down to New Orleans and am transitioning well back to my Southern roots. It almost feels like I never left haha; it is the weirdest thing. My first week here in Kenner a southern Louisiana family had us over for dinner, and they prepared Seafood Gumbo! Just picture this: A massive gumbo pot filled with tons of shrimp, catfish, oysters (luckily fully cooked this time ;) haha) all on top of a full size Crab smothered in white rice. Definitely a welcome back to New Orleans that is for sure :D And this time I actually really enjoyed it!  I have come far and learned a lot since the beginning of my mission I guess, what can I say. Louisiana has changed me, and especially my tolerance to seafood no doubt. I was pounding that stuff. Helped that it was fast Sunday, and we had been fasting all day, but hey....haha

It has been quite the experience pretty much doubling into this area, because sadly the prior missionaries were... let me put it this way, "struggling." It is a quad apartment so there are 4 of us missionaries here, and 2 of them are Spanish elders. I am super excited to have Elder Cannon down here with me, because that man is a celestial being. To quote President Varner, "We are sending y'all down there to cleanse the temple and change culture." I think he was probably just talking about Elder Cannon, but I will do my best to pull my weight ;) So long story short, the area book was "lost" so we have literally been starting from ground zero. Man, not again haha. It seriously is every single time the area just starts getting popping I get transferred lol, bless my heart. We have been hitting the doors like crazy though, and the Lord has been blessing us so much. We set some high goals as a quad and are really working toward them!

We met so many great investigators and have been working many of them. Miracle: Friday afternoon we had been working hard, but really wanted to invite an investigator to come to church with us this Sunday. So we decided to pray of course and call on the blessings of Heaven. Honestly it was pretty brutal in the hot sun for hours and hours, and we weren't having much success. As it always seems to happen, you just have to keep pushing. We kept going and while at a complex we saw this African American family taking groceries up the stairs so we reached out to them. They were sooooo solid!!! We taught the restoration lesson sitting out on the grass, and they are Davin and Sherry. While we were teaching them they were answering all of their own questions! We invited them to church, and they were like, "oh yeah, y'all are coming tomorrow too though right?" We met with them the next day, and they had read everything and just thanked us for the truth. Davin gave the closing prayer and thanked God for this gospel for his future family.  They don't have any kids yet, but Davin said this is what he wants for them. It was so incredible! Let's goo! Total miracle and blessing from the Lord. Davin ended up getting called into work, and so I guess we weren't specific enough in our prayer... this week though!! Sacrament meeting was great, and I was grateful for the chance to introduce myself and share my testimony. I shared the analogy of Lehi taking his family into the wilderness and making it to the promised land, and how I was transferred and asked to cross the many waters (Lake Pontchartrain) to make it to the promised land (Kenner/Metairie). Just happy to be here!

One Miracle that I would like to share:  I have been thinking a lot about and sharing with other missionaries that you never know the good you do as a missionary. I think we all wonder sometimes if it really matters to be all in, and to give everything to the Lord especially when being one foot in is so much easier. It is especially difficult as a missionary when you don't always see if anything even comes of it all (the fruits of the labor) or if there isn't any visible "success." However, I am truly grateful for this tender mercy the Lord showed me that will continue to help me lay it all on the altar of sacrifice. A couple weeks ago I heard that this family in Picayune, Mississippi was getting baptized and asked how they were found. Well, turns out Elder Heninger (a missionary that went home a transfer ago) and I ended up finding them on exchanges back in January!!! I remember the day specifically and was so excited when we found Yolonda Smith out in front of her trailer. (I had even written her name down and the whole experience in my journal that day) I remember biking back from the exchange thinking how amazing of a family they were, but then never heard anything about it for many months. Until just a couple weeks ago when I heard of the entire family (Mom and her 4 boys) getting baptized. Neither of us were at the baptism, and I only had the opportunity to teach the first lesson, but it sure made me smile. It helped me to remember that we are all in this together and all play a part in this great work of the Lord, even if it just means finding them the first time. And who knows how many people reached out to them and prepared them for the gospel up to this point in their life. Now how many of these things happen? Probably all the time. I was just grateful for this thought, because no matter how small the part we play, we are all important. And ultimately we may never know the seeds we plant as missionaries, and we are all missionaries in the work of the Lord even if we aren't wearing a name tag. I am so grateful for another opportunity to get the work moving forward in this area. There is so much potential, and I am so happy Heavenly Father has given me the blessing of working with Him here.

Well, I will leave it at that this week, and ask for prayers in my behalf and this area. I know the Lord sent me here, and there is work only Elder Woody and I can do here at this time. I am looking forward to working hard, and changing culture down here. I love the Lord, I love the gospel, and I love y'all!! Yaherdme? Oh and looking forward to skyping on Mother's day!!
Love,
Elder Wilson

MAY 1, 2018

Another week that was just great!! It was the last week of the transfer, and couldn't have been better. We started the week of with teaching early morning seminary 2 mornings with the High school kids, and had a blast. Just picture this, "Missionary olympics" with the study of Mormon 8 and 9 :D We found whatever we could from the apartment and had some sporting events. For example, pin the mardi gras beads on the deer skull, and put put golf with a saints cup. It was pretty great let me tell ya :) It sure kept everyone alert at 6 a.m haha.

NEWS: Last night we got transfer calls. It turns out I am headed back down to where I was mission born and raised--NOLA! I will be in a suburb west of mid city where I started and it is a city called Kenner.  My new companion will be Elder Woody, and I remember picking him up at the airport many months ago, so that will be great. All I know is that I will be going in swinging and finishing strong, because this may be my last stop! I will be the district leader down there, and rumor has it I will have 12 missionaries in the district, so this may be intense. I am looking forward to the challenge though, and grateful for another opportunity to serve the Lord in a different part of his vineyard. Elder Jensen is trained up and once these reins are off, this man is going to soar. Love Elder Jensen! Honestly feels like yesterday I picked the guy up. Total stud, going to do amazing things.

We had our last couple lessons with Danny and he completely threw coffee. He had been drinking 2 to 3 cups of coffee everyday for almost his whole life and on Wednesday he just got rid of the whole coffee maker in the house. Threw the thing right in the garbage. He told us that he gave up alcohol many years ago, and although he was a chain smoker he did the same with tobacco. Such a good man, and so prepared! His baptismal interview went great, and he told the elder he was excited to serve. On Saturday morning bright and early we got to the church at 8 to fill the font, and Danny showed up at 8:15 in prep for the 9 a.m baptism. As Elder Jensen kept saying, "Danny is smiling like a school girl." Haha he seriously was so excited for his baptism, and it turned out so great. Randy Helm one of the members of the ward down here was able to baptize him, and he is a convert himself so that was way special for him. We had a lesson with Danny in his home with his family, and they are awesome. There was such a special spirit at the baptism, and so great that many members could come and support. I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true with all my heart, and I felt that confirmation again with Danny's decision to enter the waters of baptism. Danny told us afterward, "I just felt a cleansing feeling and powerful spirit after being baptized, and it stayed with me for several hours." How amazing is that? To see a man humble himself and exercise the needed faith to follow the example of Jesus Christ is just amazing. I am so grateful for the blessing it was to find Danny when he had been prepared by the Lord. It was a miracle. His sister had passed away 3 days before reached out to him a few months ago, and although a very sad event, it allowed the Gospel of Jesus Christ to fully enter his life as we taught him many restored truths. The plan of salvation is real. Danny then went with Randy Helm to Slidell to be an Usher at the Glady's Knight event the rest of the day, and was confirmed a member/given the Holy ghost the next day at church.

The Glady's Knight event was such a hit!! Nana Tay, our investigator Grandma that is seriously the nicest lady, gave the sister missionaries a ride, and we rode with Bobby and Joanna Penton. Steve Lee brought his wife Courtney, and Chris and Paige made it to the evening showing. Many others came as well, and it was great to see so many African Americans as well. Those barriers are going down!! During part of the performance Glady's Knight and the choir started jamming out, and next thing I knew tons of us missionaries were clapping, dancing, and praising the Lord in the chapel. Never thought I would see that in an LDS chapel, but boy was it awesome!! Glady's Knight as you can imagine brought a total Baptist music feel and got the crowd singing and praising the Lord with some Amens, hallelujahs, and thank you Jesus' going on. It was such a blast, and Glady's bore powerful testimony of how finding the church has blessed her life tremendously. It was incredible. The stake president at the end was like, "Now if you are interested in learning more from these missionaries now you know these missionaries GOT SOUL!" Amen. So great to be able to break down some barriers and leave it on the dance floor Chapel. Whatever we gotta do to break down those walls, and share the gospel with ALL I say!

I have come to love this area so much, and have made so many lasting friendships that I will treasure forever. It is so hard to leave, but I know the Lord needs me elsewhere. I know that I found those many friends that I promised to find here, and am so grateful. It will be great to be able to keep in touch with them too, and further encourage them :) And Kenner isn't too far!

Well, I love y'all and want to thank you so much for your support. I love my mission so much, and am so thankful for the opportunity to serve the Lord.

APRIL 23, 2018

Hey y'all this week was incredible! From a slimy battle against raw oysters to an investigator almost starving himself to miracles finding more to teach, I'd say it was a great week!

This last week we met this way nice guy named Frank at the neighborhood crawfish boil we were invited to, and he had told us about his restaurant here in Mandeville. So this last week during lunch Elder Jensen and I stopped in! Well, this will just tell you how nice the people are down here in Louisiana. Frank comes out, brings a menu, and starts asking us what all we want to try. He ends up serving us like 3 appetizer dishes, and 2 full size entree dishes all on him. What a guy! He brought out some gumbo nachos, fried pickles, fried oyster, boudin ball cajun burgers, shrimp tacos, and last but not least a couple Raw oysters. YIKES!! That was nerve wracking to say the least. It was like cracking a raw egg and slurping that puppy... Can't even believe I got that down the pipe. Needless to say we were stuffed and sick to our stomachs after that haha. It was all wayyy good though! Frank is going to Glady's knight on Saturday as well.

So last week we were teaching Danny Meryl one of the last lessons for baptism: tithing, fast offerings, and fasting. The lesson went great, and with scheduling stuff it took us about 6 days for the next lesson. Well, we go to follow up with him on the previous lesson and he is like, "Well, I don't eat  much to begin with and usually only eat a couple meals a day. But this last week I have only eaten 1 meal a day because I want to align myself with the church and obey the commandment of fasting." HAHAHA whooops!!! I am pretty sure we mentioned the 1 time per month thing, unless special occasions, but bless this man's heart. We have been starving the poor guy! He is seriously so faithful though and just wants to do everything right. He is excited for his baptism this Saturday the 28th, and is planning to be an Usher at the Glady's knight even later in the day. Just the most genuine and faithful guy you'll meet.

We have been working with several part member families especially those with a husband that served a mission, and have been having great success. This last week we had dinner with Bobby and Joanna Penton, who are expecting their first child in the next few months. It was so great because Joanna is from the Philippines and just super nice, and Bobby told us all about his mission to California. He took us out to the garage and showed us all of his old mission stuff, and that was way cool. We invited them to the Glady's Knight event this Saturday, and they are planning to pick us up :)
We also have been working with a guy named Steven Lee who is an anesthesiologist and served his mission in Taiwan. Him and his wife just recently had a baby girl, and have been thinking about how they want to raise her. We brought a former Stake President with us to visit him this week, and the lesson went great. Whenever I worry about being too bold or blunt I remember some of the Savior's teachings in the New Testament :D  Steve made it to church this last week and said it was a great spiritual reminder. They are planning to attend Glady's Knight event too!

As you can see we have seriously been inviting everyone and their dog to this Glady's Knight event, because it is going to be a game changer down here in this area we think. I am so excited for it, and really think it is going to open a lot of doors to the gospel down here.

Miracle: On Wednesday we got a call from a guy from Utah that is one of the builders currently working on the Baton Rouge temple. Well turns out this lady came to "inspect the job site" for her work and ended up talking to some of the people on site. They shared a little about the temple and the Book of Mormon with her, and got her information to learn more. Lucky for us she lives in Mandeville!! Right after we got off the phone with this guy we gave the lady, Marcia, a call. We asked if she was busy that night, and next thing we knew she was inviting us over for dinner at 6 that same day, 2 hours after the original phone call! She fed us spaghetti with her 2 little kids and husband Kyle. They were both super nice and seem way prepared! We taught the Restoration lesson and answered so many great questions. Total miracle!

One last miracle: We were driving to an appointment and saw this older man outside his house carrying some heavy bricks to lay in a garden. We decided we better stop and help him. He was a way nice older man, but wasn't interested in the message after we helped him. However, before we left the lady next door, Lauire, came out to check on her kids running through the yard and started talking to us.
She was super nice and we ended up talking with her for quite a while over in her yard about the Book of Mormon. She currently attends a non-denominational church but was way open. She also knew members that used to live here! We went back the next day to bring her a copy, and she was way excited about the Jaredite people in Ether. We are excited to keep meeting with her too! It was way cool to see that those spiritual promptings are real, but may not end up in the way we expect them to.

Love y'all. Hope you have a blessed week!

APRIL 16, 2018

This week was an amazing week! The Lord's hand was most definitely seen and we were blessed to be a part of some incredible miracles!!

We met with Chris several times this week, and he is doing great. He has been super busy with work lately, but has been keeping up on his Book of Mormon reading :) One of the lessons we followed up with his reading of Moroni 7, and it talks about how we must do things with real intent (pray and read). It was cool, because he told us that he read the scripture and realized it was speaking to him so he re-read the first little bit of the chapter 3 or 4 times haha. He is doing great, and it has been such a testimony builder for me, because we met him at what seems to be the perfect time. He has been going through a 1 year sober program to clean his life up, and just last week finished the course! He has to wait a few months before the court trial finishes up, but that will just give him more time to learn, progress, and build that foundation on Jesus Christ.

As I have mentioned before Glady's Knight is coming to Slidell in about 2 weeks now to sing and bear testimony of the Book of Mormon, and so we have been inviting everyone and their dog to this event! It has been sooo cool. Like last night we ran into a neighborhood crawfish boil and ended up inviting everyone to the Glady's Knight. This one lady, Sharee, mentioned that she is "a recovering catholic" and actually lives 2 streets down from the church in Slidell!! Let's goo. She seems way excited to go. The guy hosting the crawfish boil didn't seem super excited about music, but sure wanted to get us out on his kayak/shrimp boat with him LOL ;) It was tough turning the guy down, bless our hearts.  And then we went and did an exchange over in Hammond this week, and man that place is the promised land haha. We found 3 super awesome families that all seemed stoked about the event. This lady named Tasha actually came to the church in Hammond twice when she lived out in Pontchatoula, and has now since moved a few streets down from the church! She seemed so prepared and a total miracle that she has already stepped in the doors.

Miracle: Elder Jensen felt inspired that we needed to visit some LA's up in an area that we hadn't gone to before, so we decided to follow the prompting! The first miracle was knocking on the wrong house, only to find this way awesome guy that has always wanted to learn about the B.o.M. We had a great lesson with him! We then visited this guy named Jason Gore who actually served his mission here in Louisiana and moved back a few years after. He was the branch president down in Morgan City, and just a super great guy. He works in the oil industry, and just remarried a non-member a few years ago. We could tell he still had a strong testimony even though he hasn't been to church in a while. He told us he has been working on his wife slowly with the gospel as well. The miracle wasn't just finding him though. Turns out he was having surgery on his shoulder bright and early the following morning and has been way nervous about it. He had been thinking about calling someone in the ward to give him a priesthood blessing, but Heavenly Father sent us instead :) He shared so many mission experiences of following promptings from being obedient, and we were able to bear testimony of that. His wife Sharee had never seen a priesthood blessing, and so that was way cool as well. We also invited them to the Glady's Knight event and they said they wanted to go! The same night we felt prompted to flip a u-turn and head the opposite direction we were headed, and ended up visiting this family who's Dad just returned from work off the rig. We invited them to Glady's of course, and it was a total miracle again.

We have been taking out a Priest age young man teaching with us, Isaac Holbrook, and he ended up spending all Saturday with us. We had a blast, and hoping to help him get on a mission. He bore a testimony of how in the last couple weeks he has made it more of a priority to read and pray, and shared how it has only blessed his life. I love how missionary work has so many aspects of helping others. Honestly this week was something else. I could go on and on about the blessings Heavenly Father showed us this week, but words won't do justice regardless (or even irregardless :D).

We had zone conference this week, and so I wanted to conclude with my thoughts/testimony:
As a mission we read the Book of Mormon in 90 days, and President Varner asked several of us to bear our testimonies of our experience. I was grateful for the chance I had to reflect on the experience. I shared how there were sooo many days where I would start reading and just KNEW the B.O.M was true, and couldn't wait to finish it so I could receive a "full witness" However, I learned that you can receive a "full witness" of its truth every single time you read it.

I also found that the Book of Mormon in and of itself is a miracle that I can hold in my hands.
By small and great miracles I have come to see the Lord's hand in this work of bringing souls unto Him. The Bible dictionary shares, “Miracles should not be regarded as deviations from the ordinary course of nature so much as manifestations of divine or spiritual power. Miracles were and are a response to Faith.” Through reading the B.O.M again and furthering my testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ I can say as Moroni does in Mormon 9:11, 15, “God has not ceased to be a God of miracles. But behold I will show unto you a God of miracles.” As Moroni declares I have also gained more of a sure knowledge that God truly is a God of miracles. I testify of the miracles that have taken place in my heart as I have labored in the Lord's service and held fast to the Book of Mormon that I treasure.

APRIL 9, 2018

Alright from Louisiana!
This week was another fantastic week!!

We met this way nice lady named Donna last week and ended up doing service for her in her yard. Next thing we knew we were sitting down listening to her whole life story of speaking in tongues and being filled with the holy ghost, etc. She shared with us some interesting experiences to say the least. "Satan has been trying to kill me all my life." haha she is a great lady. Anyways, she gave us the huge tub of Jambalaya, and poor Elder Jensen hadn't experienced that kind of Jambalaya yet and I may or may not have forgotten to warn the guy. Bless his heart!  "Sweet this will keep us fed the next couple days." (I just smiled) Half way through bowl,  he said, "Man if this is Jambalaya then I hate jambalaya." LOL!!!! I assured him that it wasn't the real deal, because good gravy that stuff wasn't even of this Earth. She told us she put puree'/liquid crawfish in it, and I think she might have put her dying cat along with it.... Bless her heart though! It's the thought that counts I guess. I love Louisiana :P

We have been working with this great guy named Danny and this last week we had a great lesson with him. He has been reading the Book of Mormon with the ward and is just cooking right into 2nd Nephi! Hopefully the Isaiah chapters don't slow the man down, because he is greasing up those hotcakes if you feel me. Almost like ordering "something deluxe" at the McDonald's and ending up with a platter of hotcakes. Still trying to figure out how this applies to Danny reading the Book of Mormon, but anyways he is doing great. We had a lesson with him about baptism and read Matthew 7 and then 2nd Nephi 31 and committed him to baptism on April 28th. We are excited!!

Miracle: After a couple months now the schedules FINALLY matched up and we were able to have a get together with Chris and Paige Caronna along with Steve and Baeli Short. Everyone made it off work barely in time and it just all worked out somehow :) Chris made dinner for everyone over at his house and it was just so great. Everyone seemed to have a great time getting to know each other and Steve and Chris are going golfing, and Baeli and Paige are going to start some personal progress/book of mormon studying together! We shared the short Restoration video and talked about it together, and then Paige texted us on Sunday saying she loved Moroni 7 and Mosiah 2! Things are going great. Please pray for them.

Another highlight was bringing our investigator Raymond to church. He seemed to really enjoy it, but almost Hijacked the gospel principles lesson on the Priesthood. Apparently he used to be a pastor and everything so you can just imagine that, and we are definitely going to have to teach more on the priesthood haha. It was pretty funny!

I wanted to finish with a few thoughts that I have been thinking about and reminded of. On my mission I have had the opportunity to meet so many members of the church ( many even RM's) that sometimes find themselves checking things off a list like: serving a mission, going to the temple, being sealed, blessing their baby, etc. They then find themselves not attending church anymore or reading their scriptures because they have "checked everything off the list." I have had much time to think about this especially throughout my mission and am reminded by the counsel given in the scriptures and by Prophets. Our testimonies and ultimately our faith are living things that require nourishment. Like any other living entity without the proper nourishment will dwindle and could even die. As the well known example in Alma 32 shares, in order for a seed to grow we must nourish it, and in the same sense, in order for a fruitful tree to continue to produce fruit we must never stop nourishing it. I love the quote by Joseph B. Wirthlin, "Faith is not so much something we believe; faith is something we live." We cannot simply believe or "have faith," we must do it and live it. Are we simply doing the steps or are we actively taking the steps? I know that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is something we must live even when it is tough, but further testify of the joy and blessings that come from following the Savior Jesus Christ's example. It truly is the "Good news." The Book of Mormon contains convincing evidence of these truths, but it is up to us to constantly find them, apply them, and live them!
Hope y'all have a blessed week!
